What is the link between Scotland and Egypt?

One tale holds that we Scots owe the engineering/intellectual prowess that has kept this tiny nation at the forefront of development and innovation to an ancestry among the educated classes of Ancient Egypt.

The story goes that following the loss of the army which followed the exodus of the Hebrews into the Red Sea, there was a rift in the Pharaoh's family which saw his eldest daughter Scota and her husband lead their followers out of Egypt. Scota's people wander throughout Africa, before crossing to Spain, then to Ireland, and finally to mainland Britain and Scotland.

This of course also gives a precedent for the numbers of us who travel the world, filled with a sense of adventure, wanderlust and wonder. It's in our blood from the time of the Exodus.

So, are the inventor of the light bulb, the television, the self-loading rifle, the pneumatic tyre, the tarmacadam asphalt road, the discoverer of penicillin, the Clyde shipbuilder, the modern internationally dispersed, technically over-achieving, Scottish expatriate worker, directly descendants of the people who had the knowledge used to build the pyramids?

Is there evidence?

There is physical evidence which suggests that we are, that there is truth in the ancient myths of Ireland and Scotland. Our very own Stone of Destiny is sown into these myths, and tied to Nostradamus' prophesies and the Bible.

The big question?

Do we, personally, believe that we are descended from a Pharaonic engineer/overseer or member of Pharaoh's family? Is the deeply seated logic that enables us to understand and to see the relationship between programming elements, HTML language structures, electronic communication, to dissect the physical hardware of a computer installation or a telephone network a genetic memory from the physics involved in building Cheops Pyramid? Does our love of the sea stem from the voyages from Egypt to Spain, Ireland, and Scotland?

Not an answer

Nice, comforting thought - no effort required from me except to recall the ancient memories. But then again, why do I have to read a book on machine language before I 'remember' how the information registers in my PC work? Why did I have to pay attention to the Physics teacher in school, and read the books to understand electrical potential?
