Act2pdf Lite - Demo version
Lite demo version which will only produce a 20 item Catalogue - otherwise fully functional. Install/uninstall and use in exactly the same way as the full version (see below).
How to install/uninstall
Download the file from the link provided on the receipt page or the order confirmation email. Unzip to your temporary file folder and run setup.exe
This will create a link on your Windows Start Menu. This is a .NET Framework 2.0 application, if you do not have the correct version of .NET installed, you will be prompted to download during the installation, and will be connected to the Microsoft download location.
The application can be uninstalled from Control Panel | Add/remove Programs.
First use
On fist use, the settings dialogs will launch as follows
1 The ActinicCatalog.mdb file to read from - navigate to your site folder and select the file. 2 The Output file location and name (Select the hard drive folder where you want to store your pdf catalog file(s). You will have the opportunity to save to adifferent name when you run your pdf printer) 3 The storage location for temporary image files - Act2pdf will write the resized image files to this location - and delete them when it is closed. 4 The source folder where Act2pdf can find your product images (usually the site folder) 5 Image Settings dialog - When you select image height, the number of characters to be used from the description will be auto selected. It is recommended you do NOT change this. Please select the same width value as you selected for height (you are actually setting the maximum size of the larger dimension for your images - portrait images will be scaled to fit the height, landscape images will be scaled to fit the width)
Click Load Data and the tables will fill. These are read-only copies of the information stored in Actinic and no data is written to your Actinic tables by this application. Tabs exist for the Product, Catalog and Setup tables, but currently only information from the Setup and Product tables is used in the PDF output. There is a view tab, where you can see an approximation of how the data will look in the pdf output. To look at another item, click the Product tab, click the line you want to see, then click the view tab.
To produce a PDF catalogue, click Save to PDF.
Act2pdf works with the full product image and resizes this to fit the selected output limit. This gives the best quality pdf image. The thumbnail images produced are currently written to the folder you select in jpeg format and are named tempimgx.jpg where x is the product table line number. Act2pdf deletes these files when the application is closed.
Repeated use
On subsequent launches, you will see the image settings dialog only.
The Change options on the File | ActinicLocation menu allows you to change to a different site folder. It will also present the other dialog choices for output file, temporary images and original product image locations
Change image size menu option relaunches the image settings dialog and immediately this closes, it produces a new pdf file using the new settings. Occassionally this may produce an error message. So far that has been resolved by pressing cancel, saving the open pdf writer to a temporary name, then after a couple of minutes, run the Save to pdf menu option. Using this option, you can produce a 50 max Thumbnail, Product Ref, Short Description, Price report, then change the settings to 200 x 200 and run a full 450 character description version of the same site.
